Description
RURAL FIRE NUMBER SIGNRural Fire Number Plates were kind of the 1900's version of the Fire Marks which were used in the 1800's. While the Fire Mark let the fire company know that the building was insured, the Fire Number Plate help them identify and simplify addresses for dispatching fire and rescue units.
These were discontinued when the 911 phone system became operational
This particular Fire Number Plate was from the mid 1900's.
It is a heavy gage galvanized metal Fire Department sign which measures 6.0" x 5.0" with 2 mounting holes. It has a red enamel paint background with white reflective 243 numbering. This vintage sign/plate was un-issued New Old Stock (NOS). Having been in storage for years, it is in good condition though there is minor scuffing on the reflective surface and paint from storage.
This would make an excellent gift or addition to a collection of firefighting memorabilia or a general collection of signs.
It would also look great in a bar area or Man Cave.
