HISTORY
Alice Caviness and her husband Jules Junquerra established Alice Caviness jewelry on Long Island in the early 1940's.  In addition to a manufacturing facility here in the United States Caviness also imported commissioned designs from jewelers in Germany.
DESCRIPTION
This listing is for an antique Alice Caviness Germany sterling silver, cloisonné enamel, and marcasite rooster chanticleer brooch pin.  The body, coxcomb, and tail feathers of the rooster are quite colorful and are done in multicolored hand painted cloisonné enamel.  The base of the tail feathers and the neck of the rooster carry marcasite decoration.  The back of the brooch carries a safety clasp.  The underside of the brooch carries the words GERMANY and STERLING SILVER; in addition there is a small two letter cartouche.  It appears that the first letter is "A" but it is difficult for me to determine the second letter.
CONDITION
This antique Alice Caviness sterling silver rooster brooch is in wonderful condition.  The sterling silver is free of any signs of damage such as bend or dents to the surface.  The cloisonné enameling is completely intact and free of any signs of damage.  The safety clasp opens easily and closes securely.  The surface of the sterling silver carries a warm, antique patina.  This antique Alice Caviness sterling silver rooster brooch has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.
