This is a solid bronze professional casting done in 1978 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Ellington, CT Volunteer Fire Department.  Only 35 of these pieces were ever cast and every piece was distributed in 1978.  Seven of those pieces were retained by the department itself for use as presentation pieces and one of those was mounted as a wall hanging in the EVFD meeting hall.  I have only this single piece in my collection.  In seven more years the EVFD will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary and this plaque will be fifty years old.  It measures 5-5/8 inches by 7-3/4 inches and weighs about 4-5 lbs. (estimate).  It is 1/2-inch thick at the eagle's breast.  This particular piece has always been in a protected environment and is exactly as original except that a brass rod, which can easily be removed, has been soldered to the back for the purpose of hanging.  It is available for shipping or for local pick-up in Ellington, CT.
Also included is an original (1979) 50th Anniversary booklet presenting the history of the department with several photos.  It is in exceptionally clean, near mint condition with no marks or damage except for a slight bit of sun fading along the edge of the spine from storage for 43 years in a bookcase.
